Is the service, local, regional, or national. Is the service 24/7, working hours, or extended hours?
Telemedicine plans do not replace your doctor. It is concierge medicine to speak with a doctor when your primary care doctor is not available, you cannot schedule an immediate appointment, you do not want to take time away from work or go to an emergency room or urgent care.
Will the telemedicine consultation be recorded and information sent to my doctor?
Yes. Consultations are recorded and information can be sent to your regular physician if you ask the telemedicine doctor to send the records to your physician.
All physicians are US, board certified in the state you live. If you are traveling to another state, you will speak with a doctor licensed in that state.
When is it better to go to an emergency, urgent, or my primary care physician?
Physicals, referral by primary care doctor to a specialist, life threatening issues, i.e. bleeding, difficulty breathing, high temperature, chest pains, and other issues where immediate health services is required.
Sometimes, people may not be sure and having a conversation with the doctor on the phone helps people decide to make an appointment or seek emergency medical treatment.
The monthly fee may be paid by check or credit card.
Physicians providing consultations for telemedicine members may offer online prescriptions for a wide range of products that deliver direct medicinal value. These include, but are not limited to, drug classes such as antibiotics and antihistamines. Convenience prescriptions for maintenance medicines may also be obtained in cases where a member is in transition to a new insurance plan or doctor. Online prescriptions will only be issued when indicated and approved by a physician, and as permitted by law in your state.
There is no guarantee that an online prescription will be issued on any consultation and online prescriptions will only be issued if the physician is able to gather the appropriate information to accurately diagnose and treat a given condition. Physicians will refer patients to their primary care physician or appropriate level of care when indicated.
It is important to note that the telemedicine company is not a drug fulfillment warehouse. In the event a physician does prescribe medication, he/she will usually limit the supply to no more than thirty days. Patients with chronic illnesses should visit their primary care physicians or other specialists.
Telemedicine network physicians do not issue online prescriptions for substances regulated by the DEA, those used for a non-therapeutic purpose, and/or those substances which may be harmful (potential for abuse or addiction). For a current list of DEA controlled substances, see the US Department of Justice website.
If you leave the company, you may have the choice to take the telemedicine subscription with you.
Subscriptions are monthly. To cancel, call customer service or send an e-mail.
Some people want a one time only interaction with a doctor. Others do not spend the time to set up their medical health profile and get in the habit of utilizing telemedicine services.
The more you utilize your telemedicine subscription, the more you will find it to be a valuable benefit.
As people get into the habit of using telemedicine, most find it to be a satisfying experience, a time saver, and an excellent value.
Telemedicine cannot resolve every health issue but what it will do is provide you access to a doctor to either resolve the medical issue on the phone or the doctor's recommendation to seek medical treatment with your physician or a medical facility.
